Thy Trail Marathon 2016

Spent the day today at Thy National park to run the Thy Trail Marathon. Race organisers claims that its Denmark’s harshest marathon & I can’t agree more! It’s indeed one of the toughest marathons in Denmark due to several long water passages, muddy trails, lose sand on beaches & sand dunes. 12794339_991151907587379_1865499288299656967_n

At couple of water passages, the water was until my stomach & at others until knee. The water temperature should around freezing point. Walking/running through those long water passages, legs went completely numb & it took few minutes after crossing the passage to feel the legs & run again. I didn’t go with any goal today but just wanted to experience & enjoy it. Had heard a lot about this race & it’s daunting terrain incl. those infamous deep water passages.

First 11km I ran with David but couldn’t follow him after that long water passage. And from there I ran by my own & by feeling. Weather was glorious, sunny & the temperature was just about 0 degrees.

Also, got the chance to meet so many known faces & trail running friends at the start & also during the run.
Overall it was a great experience in the wild nature of Danish west coast.
Race was perfectly organised. Depots, route marking, bus transport to the start & warm soup & cake at the finish was a bonus. Thanks to the race crew for everything.

Overall a nice day on the trails. Time to rest & restitude:)
